This test is recommended for individuals who believe to have been bitten by a tick, or have recently traveled or hiked in a wooded or grassy area and show symptoms of Lyme disease, such as fever, muscle and joint pain, headache, fatigue, and a "bull's eye" rash near a bite mark.
The test is designed to measure IgG and IgM antibodies to three types of bacteria known to cause Lyme disease: Borrelia burgdorferi, Borrelia garinii, or Borrelia afzelii.
It is important to note that a positive test result does not necessarily mean that the individual has Lyme disease, but can serve as an indicator in the diagnosis process. If positive, an evaluation by a medical professional is recommended.
