Celiac Disease Test

Celiac Disease Test
This test is recommended for individuals who have a family history of celiac disease and are experiencing symptoms which may include abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, weight loss, and fatigue.
The Celiac Disease Test provides a measurement of your total immunoglobulin A (IgA), tissue transglutaminase immunoglobulin A (tTG-IgA), and Deamidated gliadin peptide immunoglobulin G (DGP-IgG) levels. All which are antibodies that can serve as indicators of celiac disease, an autoimmune disease where ingestion of gluten can lead to damage to the small intestine.
It is important to note that while this test can serve as an indicator of celiac disease, it is not definitive and a small intestine biopsy may still be required for conclusive reports. Additionally, if an individual has an IgA deficiency, it can lead to false-negative results.
About the test
Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that affects the small intestine, and it is triggered by gluten consumption. Gluten is a protein found in grains such as wheat, rye, and barley. When a person with celiac disease consumes gluten, their immune system reacts by attacking the small intestine, damaging its lining, and leading to various gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, bloating, and abdominal pain. Over time, this damage can also result in malabsorption of nutrients, which can lead to more severe health issues.
